Nyctalocos contributor copy has arrived (plus a few more updates)!

Hey everybody, M. here,

Happy to say that my contributor copy of Nyctalocos: A Collection of Night Terrors got here at the end of last week and it’s another absolutely beautiful book from Chthonic Matter. This themed anthology contains my short story Sherman Dismantled And Afloat along with new tales of hypnagogic horror from eleven other contemporary authors of dark, disturbing, innovative fiction.

So what’s my story about?

Every time Sherman falls asleep, he wakes up a few minutes later–coming apart at the seams. Who, or what, might hold a remedy to address this bizarre malady?

Pick up a copy directly from Chthonic Matter or order one on Amazon and give it a read to find out. If you enjoy Sherman Dismantled And Afloat, you can find more of my horror in this vein with my two stories that have appeared in Chthonic Matter Quarterly thus far, Sticky which appears in the Winter 2024 edition, and What’s Behind The Walls, which appears in the Summer 2026 edition.

Those two stories are also part of a thematic triptych which will conclude in my story The Move Out, which is slated to appear in the Winter 2027 edition of CMQ.

And if you dig the way I approach things horrific and want to see what I do with a secondary world of my own devising, don’t hesitate to grab a copy of Kingdoms Trembling from DMR Books and immerse yourself in my debut sword & sorcery collection, which has been getting some very nice reviews thus far.

Which brings me to my next topic to discuss…

Get one of my stories at a discount from the DMR Books Summer Sale!
Kingdoms Trembling is in many ways a prequel to the two stories that originally appeared in the Die By The Sword anthologies from DMR Books, and while August and the DMR Summer Sale with it are coming to a close, you can still get the second book in that series (containing my story The Eye Within The Eye) at a discount from the DMR Books website. And if you don’t have a copy already, why not throw Kingdoms Trembling in your cart while you’re at it?

There’s still some other great stuff on sale for the next week-or-so, too (while supplies last) including one of the books in DMR’s series of reprint anthologies of difficult- and impossible-to-find sword & sorcery/dark fantasy/adventure classics, Renegade Swords III.

Pick one up and get ready for the upcoming release of Renegade Swords IV, which is coming out in September, has an absolutely beautiful cover by Brian LeBlanc (which is not pictured here because I am running out of space in this blog post, but can be seen on the DMR website), and is going to contain an incredible assortment of deep cuts and rarities.

Get ready for Mordschlag Magazine #0!
The Backerkit campaign from The Arcanist: Fantasy Publishing to fund the publisher’s upcoming run of magazines came to a close the other day and it was a huge success. They hit a number of stretch goals, one of which, as I mentioned a few weeks ago, added my sword & sorcery novelette, Gnawed Bones, to the table of contents for Mordschlag Magazine #0.

Gnawed Bones is a wild tale of warring barbarian tribes in a land you haven’t seen before, and not a story you’ll want to miss! The Backerkit says things are set to ship October 1, so stay tuned for more on that!

Strange Tales of Space and Time on the way in September
Last but certainly not least for this update, in September, my science fiction-comedy story Kayfabe will be appearing in the Strange Tales of Space and Time science fiction anthology from Burial Books. Very excited for this one to appear in print. Its title will likely give you some idea of the concepts with which it wrestles, and you won’t have to wait much longer to find out how!

Time for me to go take care of some stuff. Follow me on Facebook or Substack if you’re on those platforms and dig what I do. Take care everyone!
-M.
